Service is the program.
Phi Beta Sigma is an international organization of 150,000 college-educated men. Every chapter carries the same four commitments. Here is how Upsilon Sigma delivers them on the South Side.
The first youth auxiliary in Greek life.
In the early 1950s Phi Beta Sigma became the first Greek organization to develop a youth auxiliary. The Sigma Beta Club was established on April 23, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, under the direction of Dr. Parlett L. Moore.
Our Chicago club serves young men ages 8 to 18. Programming focuses on culture, athletics, social growth, and education, and is designed to give members a well-rounded outlook, leadership skills, and a habit of community service as they prepare for college and the workforce.
Sigma Beta Money Basics
A financial-literacy primer for club members and families.
Three pillars, delivered locally.
Bigger & Better Business

Every dollar we spend Black builds the South Side.
Black Spend is Upsilon Sigma's collective-economics initiative. Brothers log what they spend with Black-owned businesses in the chapter app, from the barber to the accountant to the caterer for the Carnation Ball. Together those receipts show what one chapter's buying power can do.
The chapter's goal is $250,000. After passing the first $100,000 goal in 2026, the brothers raised the bar.
Live from the chapter app. Totals only; no individual purchases are shown.
Who we work with.
Phi Beta Sigma partners nationally to address health disparities and educational and developmental challenges. Our chapter brings those partnerships home to Chicago.
Social Action
Tackling community challenges and social justice. Voter registration, health disparities, and hands-on service through partnerships with national organizations.
